{"id":3122,"date":"2015-11-12T13:41:20","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T11:41:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tonmeister.ca\/wordpress\/?p=3122"},"modified":"2018-05-29T07:55:54","modified_gmt":"2018-05-29T05:55:54","slug":"bo-tech-intuitive-directivity-plots-v-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tonmeister.ca\/wordpress\/2015\/11\/12\/bo-tech-intuitive-directivity-plots-v-2\/","title":{"rendered":"B&#038;O Tech: Intuitive Directivity Plots v.2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>#48 in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tonmeister.ca\/wordpress\/category\/bang-olufsen\/\">a series of articles<\/a>\u00a0about the technology behind\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bang-olufsen.com\/\">Bang &amp; Olufsen<\/a>\u00a0loudspeakers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tonmeister.ca\/wordpress\/2015\/11\/04\/bo-tech-intuitive-directivity-plots\/\">a past\u00a0article<\/a>, I tried to come up with an intuitive way of representing the beam width (or &#8220;directivity&#8221; &#8211; if you&#8217;re a geek) of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bang-olufsen.com\/da\/sound\/loudspeakers\/beolab-90\">BeoLab 90<\/a>. I realised after posting, that there is another way to do this which is used in loudspeaker reviews in\u00a0some magazines (mostly because it&#8217;s the way directivity is plotted\u00a0by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlssa.com\">MLSSA<\/a>). So, I&#8217;ve taken the same data as before, and re-plotted it using a &#8220;waterfall&#8221; function in Matlab. As can be seen here, the Acoustic Lens ensures a constant directivity (meaning the same beam width at all frequencies) in the high end.
