It&#8217;s a Sharp EL-805M &#8220;pocket&#8221; calculator that was released for sale in 1973 and discontinued in 1974.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This would have been a time when a Liquid Crystal display was a feature worth advertising on the front panel of the calculator (since this was the first calculator with an LCD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Sharp was one of the pioneers of calculators using the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vintagecalculators.com\/html\/calculator_displays.html#LCD1\">DSM (Dynamic Scattering Mode) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)<\/a>.&nbsp; These DSM LCDs have the now unusual feature of silver-like reflective digits on a dark background, rather than the now common black digits on a light background.<\/p>\n<cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vintagecalculators.com\/html\/facit_1106-sharp_el-805s.html\">http:\/\/www.vintagecalculators.com\/html\/facit_1106-sharp_el-805s.html<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"787\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tonmeister.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/sharp_calc_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7469\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.tonmeister.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/sharp_calc_01.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.tonmeister.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/sharp_calc_01-300x231.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.tonmeister.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/sharp_calc_01-768x590.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It was also from a time when instructions were included on how to use it.
