I wonder if that is something, that we will see (or rather ‘hear’) from other public service stations around the world too?

Is it really that hard to make a (non B&O) tv, which can detect and pick the best sound format (for the built-in speakers) if multiple are available, or which could handle a downmix from surround to stereo properly?

Or is the reason that people just don’t care about SQ in a tv today? Why should the tv stations then invest in multichannel broadcast of sound!

  2. Hi MM,

At this point, the truth is that I don’t know. It really depends on how DR implements their down mixing from 5.1 to 2.0. What I’ll be doing at home is leaving the Speaker Roles as they are – one 2.0 configuration and one 5.0 configuration. My guess at this point is that the True Image algorithm will not have a problem upmixing DR’s 2.0 downmix back up to 5.1 – but we’ll see…

I’ll spend a little time on the weekend going through that DR document that you linked and see if there’s anything in there to worry about (or argue with…) :-)

    Cheers

Thanks Geoff – looking forward to what you might find out.
I guess it is an important theme – not only to danish tv viewers, since it seems to be something that other (foreign) tv channels consider doing too.
